The record for youngest woman to fly solo around the world was just beaten! Zara Rutherford, at just 19, took 155 days to travel around the world and back to Belgium.

In 2017, Shaesta Waiz set the record at age 30. The record for youngest person to fly around the world is held by Briton Travis Ludlow, at age 18.

The trip, which should have taken three months, ended up taking five months. Over her trip, Rutherford traveled 52,000 kilometers and visited 41 nations.

Zara Rutherford aims to “reduce the gender gap in Aviation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), but also to encourage girls and young women to pursue their dreams.”
