Vitali Klitschko, a former heavyweight boxer and mayor of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has been taking matters into his own hands during Ukraine’s war against Russia.

Vitali and his brother Wladimir, both former heavyweight champion boxers, are fighting in the Ukrainian army in the war against Russia in an attempt to protect their country from the Russian invasion. The brothers both had incredible boxing careers, with a combined 109 wins and only 7 losses.

Vitali retired from professional boxing in 2005, but returned after a few years and retired for good in 2013. Since his second retirement, Vitali has pursued politics in Ukraine and was elected mayor of Kyiv in 2014 after holding various other positions. He has remained mayor of Kyiv for 8 years.

Wladimir retired in 2017 after winning 64 fights as a professional boxer. Since his retirement, he has been doing charity work.

At the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the brothers joined the armed forces in hopes of holding off the Russian’s attacks on Kyiv.
