Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry announced on January 8 th that they were
stepping down from their positions as “senior” royals. The couple has been desperately trying to
find privacy in the hectic life they were brought into and came to the conclusion that quitting the
royal family would be best for their family. They decided to ultimately respect The Queen from
afar as they begin their new life in North America, living almost financially individual from the
royal family. Meghan Markle states, “We now plan to balance our time between the United
Kingdom and North America, continuing to honor our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth,
and our patronages.”
Many have chimed in about this unique event, as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry move
to Canada to escape the pressures of the Royal Family. One of the most famous newspapers in
Canada says, “You are welcome to visit, but so long as you are senior royals, Canada cannot
allow you to come to stay … It breaks an unspoken constitutional taboo,” in response to the
announcement. Even Burger King UK wanted to add to the situation by tweeting, "Dear Dukes,
if you're looking for a job, we have a crown for you."
