After entering the festive times with her first holiday album in 2016 with ‘A Very Kacey
Christmas’, Kacey Musgraves has released a new christmas album along with a show to go along
with it. The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show includes guest appearances by many favorites
such as James Corden, Leon Bridges, Lana Del Rey, Troye Sivan, Zooey Deschanel, and Dan
Levy. The show opens with James Corden and a comedic twist on the classic Christmas themed
song “Let it Snow”. Like many of the songs featured in this show, the retro visuals go along with
the new music, but the music itself did not sit well with listeners. Many fans believe that her new
twists on the classic carols are not as original as it was set up to be, leaving most disappointed.
The least disappointing part of the show included the colorful scenes full of favorite
guests and comical jokes by narrator, Dan Levy. The feature from Lana Del Rey on “I’ll Be
Home for Christmas” is calming to listen to while Zooey Deschanel and Kacey’s “Mele
Kalikimaka” has an upbeat, peppy sound. Kendall Jenner also makes an appearance, mirroring a
SNL skit where she rings Kacey’s doorbell and uses cue cards to have a conversation. Although
the songs rendered “subpar” in many fans’ eyes, there is no doubting how beautiful and
interesting the effects shown through the visuals.
