Earlier this week, scientists discovered a gigantic thermonuclear blast in deep space.
According to NASA it comes from a pulsar, which is a star that blew up but was too small to
become a blackhole. NASA discovered the energy because the blast sent out massive X-rays that
got picked up by NASA’s orbital observatory NICER. The explosion released in 20 seconds the
same amount of energy our Sun would need 10 days to unleash, according to research published
in The Astrophysical Journal Letters last month. This is a grave reminder that space is
ridiculously dangerous, albeit interesting.
