After an exciting 42-41 win against Tulsa last week and a 7-1 start to their 2019 football
campaign, the Memphis Tigers have landed the biggest spotlight in all of college football.
The #24 ranked Memphis is set for a 6:30 p.m. showdown Saturday night on national television,
against the 8-0 #16 SMU Mustangs. In addition to its broadcast on ABC, the Tigers have landed
ESPN College Gameday, the network’s flagship pregame show for college football.
This is the first time Memphis has played host to College Gameday. The show will host an all-
day pregame party on Beale Street and fans all around Memphis will show up to support the
Tigers.
The Tigers are expecting a capacity crowd at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium of 61,008 fans in
attendance. This will undoubtedly be one of the most significant games in program history.
Many speculate the winner of this game will be the frontrunner for a berth in a New Year’s 6
Bowl game, the most prestigious postseason game achievable by a team, outside of the College
Football Playoff.
Memphis is favored in the game by 5 and a half, as most believe the home-field advantage will
go a long way in the Tigers’ battle against the undefeated SMU.
