You Always Find Your Way Back Home, or Not

When I say Miley, you say Liam. And when you say Liam, I say Miley. These two names have been used interchangeably since the release of the hit film, The Last Song in 2010. As if the movie didn’t make us giddy enough about an unrealistic teen romance, fans were shocked to find out that co-stars, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were dating in real life! With the failed relationships of Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, or the will they wont they of Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, it was nice to have some stability with Miley and Liam. That is of course until they broke up. Silence broke out among this great nation for the loss of this power couple. Kids everywhere aged 9-16 were crushed. It was our first heartbreak, and certainly not our last. To sum up the roller coaster that is Miley and Liam, they had us on the edge of our seats for years with the breaking up and getting back together. That is until our instagram feeds were greeted with a slightly blurry picture of Miley in a white gown and Liam in a tux. It was too good to be true, right? There’s no way the millennial Ross and Rachel finally ended up together right? Well, in the words of Miley Cyrus, ‘you always find your way back home.’

Everyone sat back with a sigh of relief knowing that love was in fact, not dead. We had finally gotten over the divorce of Jolie and Pitt back from 2016, and don’t forget about Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announcing their divorce only a year ago. We were thrilled to know that our childhood love icons were finally happy together. That is of course until they announced their split, AGAIN in early August. Fans everywhere were crushed, devastated, lost. I can remember lying in my bed, scrolling through instagram and landing on the post made by Miley confirming their split. There are no words to explain the heartbreak teens felt everywhere. But why does it hurt so bad? Why does it matter that a couple we don’t even know personally is breaking up. Im glad you asked. Miley and Liam are a symbol of our childhood. An icon of love and fame, because we want to believe that you can have both. The die-hard fans of this once power-couple are either fresh out of high-school, or on their way. We’re stressed and being shoved out into the real world and now we have to see that our favorite couple as split. It’s sad. Very, very sad. But the divorce isn’t final yet. So I, and I’m sure many others are still holding out hope that our childhood couple will still have many years of back and forth to come.
