In Hong Kong there has been a period of unrest. To understand this, it is important to understand that Hong Kong is a city in China, but has many powers of self-governance apart from the country. The people in Hong Kong are protesting the Extradition Bill, which basically says that criminals found in Hong Kong will be shipped to mainland China for hearing. Protestors are angry because they fear that if the bill is passed the criminal system in Hong Kong will erode and become corrupt and will take away some of Hong Kong’s autonomy. However, as recently as August 4th, Hong Kong’s chairman, Carrie Lam, has withdrawn the bill.
