Friday March 15, 2019 was a hard time for Muslims all around the world. 50 Muslims lost their
lives in a mosque shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand; one of the largest mass shootings in
New Zealand’s history. More than forty people were injured. Brenton Tarrant, the coldblooded
mass murder, had been planning this for a while. Tarrant even live streamed the horrific
incident on Facebook. The gruesome video immediately surfaced all over the internet and
social media. (I would not recommend anyone searching for or watching the video). Everybody
across the world has been showing their support by visiting their local mosques and holding
vigils for the innocent lives that were lost. Christchurch has been showing their support by
holding a public call to prayer near the mosque. They also joined the Muslims today for Friday
prayer. New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, has done a lot to show her support as
well. She visited the mosque and the families of the lives that were lost. She also plans to
change the laws for guns in the country. Today marks the one-week anniversary for this
incident and we will forever remember it.
