Oscar Noms and The Public's Reaction

This past year was an odd one for movies. While many great blockbusters came out, which of course are all great movies, very few independent art-house films hit the screens (or in our case, screen, just at the Ridgeway) in 2018. For the past decade or so, the Oscars have been leaning Best Picture noms towards independent art-house movies, giving light to lower budget, more artistic films. These films often do just as much or even more than high budget blockbusters with far less, which is why in most of the 21st century, they have been nominated for Best Picture. This year, however, the tides changed, bringing in a couple new contenders for Best Picture, including Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther. Many people are angry that these movies are nominated, but honestly, 2018 just was not the year for artistic movies. There just were not enough movies to make the whole Best Picture list, but here are all the nominations:
