The blue bird from the movie “Rio” is now extinct in the wild. The Spinx’s macaw gained fame
from the 20 th Century Fox movie as a parrot named Blu who flew thousands of miles across the
globe, trying to save his dying species. A recent study has shown that the bird is unfortunately
now extinct. Their extinction is greatly due to deforestation of its habitat. Blu’s missions seems
as if it wasn’t quite as successful as it was in the movie. Fortunately, hope is not gone for the
Blue Macaw though. There are still around 60 to 80 Spix’s living in captivity, so it is possible that
they will breed and repopulate their miniscule population.
