The Egg.

The Egg.

Instagram has over seventy-seven million users, making it the third most used social media platform today. People from all different backgrounds-people ranging from normal teenagers to A-list celebrities- have a presence on the app. Recently, however, a single post has surfaced as the most popular of all the content ever posted.

All Instagram posts have a button that allows anyone looking at it to “like” the picture or video. Up until recently, the most liked photo on the app was a picture posted by Kylie Jenner announcing the birth of her daughter with eighteen million likes. On January fourth, however, this all changed.

An account named @world_record_egg posted a basic picture of an egg captioned, “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.” The post was shared and reposted for nine days until the goal was met on January fifteenth. The picture now has over forty-six million likes-and that number is still climbing.

Since the egg’s fame, many accounts have tried to accomplish an even higher number of likes. None of have been successful.
