What to Do in Memphis for the Holidays!

Emma Coons, Staying Home for Christmas

Just like any other place, the 901 has all the cute houses with pretty lights and cute Parks and Recreation
snowflakes up on light poles, but we also have some special 901 holiday traditions you need to
partake in!
First off, there are more than just your average lights up in several neighborhoods this
year. If you live in Germantown, visit The Highlands. Every year one house near the entrance of
the neighborhood sets their abundance of lights spreading across the expansive yard to their own
radio station. Personally, I go every year and love to see their lights “dance” to such Christmas
bops as “Linus and Lucy,” “The House on Christmas Street,” and “Wizards in Winter.”
Sometimes the father of the family (who are Houston High alumni) even comes out to everyone
parked all up and down the street and hands out candy canes! If you want even more of a
Christmas light fix, head over to Shelby Farms after 6pm any day of the week to slowly drive
through Starry Nights! For $20 per car (or $15 for Park Members), you can crawl your car
through over two miles of lights of all sorts.
If you want to go for a date or even a friend outing, Zoo Lights at the world renowned
Memphis Zoo is the way to go. With cute tunnels of multi-colored lights, countless photo-ops,
ice skating, a ferris wheel, a magic show, and even a camel to ride. They also have some of the BEST hot chocolate out there! For only $9 admission, you
can make countless memories from 5-9pm every night at the zoo. (As a side note, last weekend
one woman was shot and injured in the line on the way in for not letting someone in, so please,
The Pony Express pleads you to let people into the line).

So now go into the 901 and enjoy this
holiday season!
