As the year comes to a close, I would like to look back and reflect on how the year went.
Well, it wasn’t too terrible, Red Sox won the world series, Warriors won the NBA championship,
and the Eagles won the Super Bowl! Decent year in sports, in political terms we’re still dealing
with Trump which is always a blast! Well, how was the music? In my opinion, the music was
perfect for this year. This year stood out to me as a year of many influential artists releasing
many good and even great projects!

In years past the music has reflected how the world is, for example: 2016 was widely
considered as an awful year as it seemed like we were losing our best and brightest day after
day. We lost David Bowie to kick the year off, and we lost Carrie Fisher to end the year. Multiple
celebrities dying this year definitely showed itself through the music. A majority of the pop
music in 2016 was serious, or even depressing. In a year where it seemed like everyone was
depressed and serious, the music did not help to change that.

2018 was a great year for music with many prominent artists releasing many influential
projects and tracks: Post Malone, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Beyoncé and Jay Z, Cardi B, Eminem,
and Drake are just a few names that stand out to me. Each project brought something new,
something different. Post Malone refined his sound and made the “in our feelings” album we
needed, Travis Scott released his much awaited “Astroworld” and it did not disappoint, Lil
Wayne released “ Tha Carter V”and reminded us why he’s one of the best rappers of all time,
and Eminem made a comeback and proved us all that he has not fallen off and went at
everyone’s neck in his album “Kamikaze.”

Music defines our culture, we can tell what was going on in the world based on the
music of that time. The music this year was all over the place, it was different. It showed us that
we have something to turn to when times get down and we won’t be depressed from the
music. It’s generally upbeat, and meaningful music.
