The Mind of Jake Paul Shakes the Youtube Space

Emma Coons, Sociopath?

Shane Dawson has been changing the way Youtube sees many of its creators in the past year, changing and totally turning around Grav3yard Girl’s life and even inadvertently tearing the beauty community apart after making a spot on Jeffree Star. Every Youtube fan has been anxiously awaiting his newest endeavor “The Mind of Jake Paul.” Jake Paul makes content on Youtube describes as “vlogs,” but include other bits like pranks and crazy antics. He “owns” a “production company” called Team10, and those “in” Team10 all live together in an LA home. Several people have left Team10 and come out against Jake Paul claiming he bullied, harassed, and hurt them. These allegations have lead many to wonder…”is Jake Paul a certified sociopath?” This notion is what Shane intends to explore in his series. This week only two episodes, each around 40-45 minutes long, have come out, and so far Shane has just explained where he is coming from, what he plans to do, and he interviewed a psychologist who described the attributes of a sociopath.

This series has so far been a huge success, the first episode gaining over 9 million views in a day, but even at that with a incredibly high engagement level, Shane’s video did not reach the trending page, while Will Smith’s “after bungy-jumping ‘vlog'” was #1 with only 2 million views and a higher dislike ratio, which has lead to the discussion of whether Youtube pushes mainstream people harder in their algorithm.
