General Pop Culture Update for Mid-April 2018

Brady Bush, Pop Star

If you’ve been on Twitter or other social media outlets recently, you might’ve noticed a LOT has been going on, so here is your general overview of the recent weeks’ developments.

Nicki Minaj

Prior to this month, Nicki Minaj had been in hiding from social media and the Internet, supposedly working on her next album. However, towards the beginning of the month, she broke her silence and appeared in a Mercedes-Benz commercial, shocking fans worldwide. Shortly after that, she made her return to Twitter and Instagram, teasing two new singles, “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz.” She dropped both of the tracks last Thursday at noon so naturally I had to listen to them right in the middle of my APUSH class. Both are absolute BOPS and get me really excited for her next album.

Cardi B

Cardi B started off the month by releasing an AMAZING album on April 6th. The entire album immediately received critical acclaim and a lot of her songs sky-rocketed on the charts. Some critics are even saying that this album revitalized 2000s rap. Also, a rumor is circulating that Nicki Minaj was supposed to release HER album in early April to surprise her fans but apparently she delayed the release so that Cardi’s album could shine and so that she wouldn’t steal any of Cardi’s Success. Very Classy on Nicki’s part. A few days later, Cardi pulled a Beyoncé and revealed her pregnancy during her SNL performance on April 8th. Overall, a great month for Cardi.

Khloe Kardashian

Early this month, Khloe’s boyfriend, Tristan Thompson, got exposed for cheating on her during her entire pregnancy. Shortly after on April 12th, Khloe gave birth to their daughter. Some are claiming that this birth was stress induced after Khloe found out Tristan cheated on her. Khloe later announced to Twitter that her newborn daughter would be named True Thompson, regardless of her boyfriend’s recent mistakes. A rollarcoaster month for Khloe so far.

Ariana Grande

Tuesday, April 17th, Ariana Grande, who had also been off of social media since 2017, made her debut back to twitter with a thought provoking tweet of an emoji teardrop. A few hours later Ariana teased her next single “No Tears Left to Cry” in an upside font, set to release on 4/20. The hashtag #ArianaIsComing immediately started trending on twitter as fans anxiously await the pop star’s return to music.
