MOVIE REVIEW: SPF-18

Bayann Jaber, Journalist

This past weekend, I watched SPF-18 on Netflix. This movie is mainly about an eighteen-year-old Penny Cooper who spent years obsessing over her high school best friend Johnny Sanders.  After his father’s death their relationship became closer.  When a country singer from Tennessee, Ash Baker comes to town, Penny is torn. Between her care free cousin Camilla, and self-centered mother, Penny turns to her camera for answers because sometimes life is better on camera. The movie was honestly awful. The acting was horrendous, as if the actors never acted a day in life. The actors were acting as if they were in a Hallmark movie. The voice over sounded strange, like she was too  focused to do it. The plot was weak, it was not clear on what was going on in the movie. One moment the main characters were together in a relationship and the next thing you know, they’re broken up with out speaking to each other. I will say that one of the better things in this movie was the soundtrack, great 80’s music.
