Rapper Gustav Åhr, more commonly known by his stage name, Lil Peep, has died at 21. The rapper was found unresponsive in his tour bus shortly before his show in Tucson, Arizona. His death is believed to be an overdose of Xanax due to his alleged addiction to prescription drugs.

Lil Peep is considered as one of the primary artists responsible for the post-emo revival His distinct style of hip hop, which is a mix of emo and rap, came to be known as emo trap. Many of his songs debuted on the music sharing site, SoundCloud. His debut album, “Come Over When You’re Sober (Part One),” dropped on September 1 and found Pitchfork dubbing him an “emo rap alchemist”. He was an inspiration to many artists in the growing emo trap scene. On Thursday, members of the hip hop community, including rappers Lil Yachty and Ty Dolla $ign, offered their condolences on Twitter. Fellow rapper Post Malone posted in remembrance of his friend, “[Lil Peep’s] music changed the world and it’ll never be the same.”

His death has sparked new conversation around mental health issues and the opioid epidemic in America.
