“Once the clock hits midnight of the night of October 31st, it’s officially Christmas Time”

–Gressa Gaustad, Star of the upcoming Houston High production of Thorton Wilder’s Literary Classic, Our Town

Now that it’s finally Christmas, it’s time to get pumped for the big day so here are 6 underground, alternative Christmas bops that will have both the Imagine Dragons and Mariah Carey shaking.

  1. “Chanukah Song- The” by Adam Sandler

This song’s lyrics are simply moving, from Adam Sandler’s touching comments to the audience in the beginning of the song to his evoking list of celebs and their associated religion. Not only that, but Mr. Sandler’s singing surpasses that of many modern stars today, easily better than Ariana Grande or maybe, dare I say, Demi Lovato.

  1. “Please Daddy (Don’t Get Drunk this Christmas)” by Alan Jackson

This somber chanson embodies young Alan’s plea to his father for his father to stay sober this Christmas, something I think all of us with daddy issues can relate to. Regardless of the depressing message of this song, it maintains a relatively happy beat. The best of both worlds some might say,

  1. “Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer” by Elmo & Patsy

This song sets the scene of a father trying to explain to his son that his grandmother has died a tragic death on Christmas Eve, by reindeer. This terrifying evidence of Santa clearly leaves his mark on the boy and his grandfather. What a twisted Christmas.

  1. “Santa I’ve Been Naughty” by Gretchen Wilson

In this sultry bop, Wilson confesses her sins to Santa admitting that she fell to temptation and pleading to not receive a measly lump of coal for Christmas. As if this wasn’t saucy enough, Wilson even shockingly accuses Santa of being naughty when it comes to his two worst vices: milk and cookies.

  1. “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” by Jeff Foxworthy

This quirky, original take on the Christmas cult classic really blew me away and in all seriousness is something that makes me feel at home. I know 12 things that are gonna make their way on to my Christmas list this year!

  1. “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey (best vocals remix)

Nothing like a new, fresh version of this classic masterpiece to really get yourself pumped for Christmas. A MUST-listen for sure. The link is below for your convenience.
