Reality Check: RuPaul’s Drag Race

RuPaul’s Drag Race is reality competition television series produced by WoW for Logo TV. The show consists of RuPaul searching for “America’s next drag superstar.”  RuPaul plays the role of host and head judge for this series, as contestants are given different challenges, ranging from mini and main, each week.

Unfortunately, this show is more manufactured than the producers make it out to be. One Reddit user by the name of “I’ll Never Tell You” claims to be part of the production team, and has been revealing to the public bits of exclusive information about the show. The credibility of this source lies in the fact that s/he spoiled the top 3 contestants before the show even aired several seasons ago. Despite this, the information should be taken with a grain of salt.

Essentially, this person claims that the show is completely rigged from the beginning. For example, Katya, a fan favorite queen, was eliminated from the show despite obviously being loved by many. This cut was, according to the user, made for the plot line. If Katya had won, she would’ve been in the top four. However, she didn’t fit the role and, therefore, the producers got rid of her.

Furthermore, the winner of the lipsync challenge that supposedly decides who stays on the show and who leaves is predetermined. There is proof of this through the filming in that the eliminated queen doesn’t get as much shine while performing as the winner.

A lot of queens undeservingly get sent home, which is dismaying to passionate viewers who root for their favorite to win. But if they don’t fit the script, they’re out. Above all, RuPaul’s Drag Race is great TV rather than a competition.
