Starting the 2016-2017 school year, Houston High School was fortunate to receive fourteen new teachers. The Pony Express interviewed new teacher, Molly Cunningham. Ms. Cunningham’s responses have been edited for clarity.
PE: Where did you grow up and go to High School?
MC: I was born in TX but moved to TN when I was still pretty young. I actually went to Collierville High School… but I am so happy to be a Houston Mustang now!
PE: What did you enjoy studying or participating in in High School?
MC: In high school I played lacrosse and was involved in Young Life.
PE: Where did you go to college?
MC: UT Knoxville. GO VOLS!
PE: What did you study/participate in in college?
MC: I got my undergrad and master’s in Special Education. In college I was also involved in Young Life. I led at a school in Knoxville for 5 years.
PE: Do you have any children and/or pets?
MC: No children, but I do have a black lab named Mojo who I treat like my child.
PE: Have you ever taught before? If so, where and for how long?
MC: This is actually my first teaching job. I feel very lucky to start out at such a great school!
PE: What’s your favorite part about Houston High?
MC: I think the best part so far has been the welcoming atmosphere. Both teachers and students have been great!
PE: What’s your favorite part about being a teacher?
MC: Working with the students!
PE: What would you be doing if you weren’t teaching?
MC: I think I would be an athletic trainer or a physical therapist.
