Starting the 2016-2017 school year, Houston High School was fortunate to receive fourteen new teachers. The Pony Express interviewed new teacher, Amanda Freeman. Ms. Freeman’s responses have been edited for clarity.
PE: Where did you grow up and go to High School?
AF: Memphis, White Station High School
PE: What did you enjoy studying or participating in in High School?
AF: AP US and European History, Mock Trial and Literary Magazine
PE: Where did you go to college?
AF: Wellesley College (undergraduate) and University of Pennsylvania (graduate)
PE: What did you study/participate in in college?
AF: Classical Studies
PE: Do you have any children and/or pets?
AF: No Thank You!
PE: Have you ever taught before? If so, where and for how long?
AF: 2 years in CA, 5 years in Philadelphia, and 4 years in New York City
PE: What’s your favorite part about Houston High?
AF: Students always open the door for me when I am carrying bags and say “yes ma’am and no ma’am”
PE: What’s your favorite part about being a teacher?
AF: Helping young people achieve something they thought they could not do before. Also, I love school supplies.
PE: What would you be doing if you weren’t teaching?
AF: I’d be a photojournalist.
PE: How is working at Houston different from what you’ve done before?
AF: I really love how kind the students are to each other>
