For the past week, people have shown both excitement and hesitation at the announcement of Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, known simply as Zendaya, in the new Spiderman movie coming out in July of next year.

Not only are fans of the marvel movies excited for her involvement, many reports have been made stating that Zendaya is playing the lead female role of Mary Jane Watson. Because she is biracial, Zendaya would be playing a huge part in adding more diversity into both the film and comic book industries.

The rumors of her playing Mary Jane have also created some backlash by people who are saying that Zendaya cannot play the role because she lacks Mary Jane’s signature red hair. People in support of Zendaya playing the part have answered by explaining how many actors dye their hair in order to get parts, including many of the past actresses that have played Mary Jane, and that people who believe Zendaya should not be allowed the part are actually prejudice because of the color of her skin.

Although many sources say the role Zendaya has been cast is Mary- Jane, other sources such as IMDB have the actress listed as simply Michelle. This could mean that instead of playing Mary Jane, she is playing Michelle Gonzales, another companion of Peter Parker in the comic books.

Either way, both Marvel and Zendaya fans are excited to see the movie when it comes out next year.
