Just last December, Star Wars fans experienced the next installment of the Star Wars franchise. Fans will be happy to know that another movie will be out by this December! Though to avoid confusion, this is not Episode eight. The Star Wars universe wants to expand it’s story and allow us to see parts to the universe we’ve only ever read about or seen TV shows of. As of April 7th, the first in the Star Wars Anthology series had been released. The movie has been dubbed the name Star Wars: Rogue One.
The movie itself is a pre sequel, because it takes place after episode 3: Revenge of the Sith but before episode 4: A New Hope. To look back at the opening crawl of A New Hope it would read “It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.” This is only half of the crawl, but it is the entire premise of Rogue One.
The movie will focus purely on a small group of rebels trying to steal the Death Star plans. Though the main star wars movies had been more “black and white” when it comes to pointing out good and evil, the director Gareth Edwards claims it will be very grey. This is only the start of the anthology series that will take place between the movies. Not much information has been released for the rest of the film series, other than that two more films will exist. As of now, you can expect to see Star Wars: Rogue One in theatres on December 16th, 2016.
