Trader Joes to 901?

Trader Joes to 901?

After years of anticipation and waiting, Trader Joe’s is finally coming to the Memphis area. The new store was announced on September 22nd to open inside of the recently closed Kroger at 2130 Exeter Road in Germantown during the summer of 2016. This brought great joy to many Memphians, especially those 10,765 likers of the “Bring Trader Joe’s to Memphis” Facebook page.

Based out of California, Trader Joe’s Company has around 460 stores across 40 of the nation’s states. The chain offers a wide variety of products including organic produce, health and nutritional products, and most notably— a large variety of beer, wine, and spirits. In the summer of 2016, grocery stores in Germantown will be able to sell wine. Therefore, this will be a prime-time for Trader Joe’s to open in the community.

Trader Joe’s will be the fourth new grocery store to be added to Germantown. It will be in competition with the recently opened Sprouts, remodeled Kroger, and new Whole Foods. Trader Joe’s official website states that they are different because, “Most grocers charge their suppliers fees for putting an item on the shelf. This results in higher prices… so we don’t do it.” With all the competition in the area, hopefully this will be enough to keep Trader Joe’s on top of the market for Germantown grocers.
