“New Bonnie & Clyde”

 “New Bonnie & Clyde”

Bryson Russell, Reporter

Recently a couple, Cheyenne Phillips and Dalton Hayes, went on a crime spree and were on the run from the law. Most news articles have taken to calling the couple the new “Bonnie and Clyde”. They took up stakes and left their homes, stealing cars and foraging checks to keep themselves moving. Hayes is eighteen years old and Phillips is thirteen, though when the couple first started dating, Phillips had Hayes’ family believing that she was nineteen. Before the couple took up stakes and left, Hayes bought Phillips an engagement ring and had claims that he loved her. Not only did Philips claim she was 19 but she also told Hayes that she was pregnant and sent the ultrasound via text.
When the parents of both families realized that their children ran away they didn’t know what to think. The couple had been on the run passing through most southern sates. They stole trucks, trespassed, and stole blank checks to cover expenses. Later, the wanted couple was found sleeping in a truck in Panama City Beach, Florida. Hayes has been taken back to Kentucky to face charges, where as Philips is in a safe house and will later see juvenile court. Hayes claims to have been protecting Phillips, she told Hayes that her family had been abusing her. He said they never meant to harm anyone. If he had to do it again, he’d buy a bus ticket instead of steal a car.
“Dalton Hayes pleaded not guilty to the charges he is facing in Grayson County. Those charges include burglary in the third degree, theft by unlawful taking of $10,000 or more, custodial interference, criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal trespassing in the third and second degree rape. Hayes is also facing two warrants in Breckinridge County.” WHAS11.com | Louisville Breaking News, Weather, Traffic, Sports – WHAS11.com
