Playoffs: Round One

Jonathan Jennings, Reporter

The football team took on Kirby last Friday in the last regular season game. John Varlas, a prep writer for the Commercial Appeal, described the game as “a great battle”; however, the Mustangs prevailed and won 44-28. Houston’s record then became an incredible 9-1 and sealed the team a three seed (preliminary ranking) in the state playoffs.

The Mustangs will host Collierville, our greatest rivals, once again in a rematch. Last time the teams faced off, Houston annihilated Collierville on all sides of the ball. The score ended 42-21. Senior linebacker, Drew Dowdy commented on Friday’s game by stating, “I love that we play them on our field again. It will be my last game, as well as the other seniors, to ever play on Houston’s field. I would not want to play any other team.” The football boys are is ecstatic to have another chance to beat Collierville, yet again.

Even though Houston has a tradition of dressing classy at the game against Collierville, dress code will be different this time around. Coach Hudgens requested a black out for the first round of playoffs. You can still incorporate dressing classy in the theme, however make sure you are dressed in black clothing. Good luck to the Houston football boys, #killtheville.
