The Show Must Go On

Bryson Russell, Reporter

Along with all the changes this school year, we have gained a new member of our Houston Band staff. Matthew Taylor, has taken Spencer Nesvick’s job as the assistant band director. Previously, he was the head band director at Cordova High. We are privileged this year to have an experienced director join our band! I had the chance to sit down and talk with Mr. Taylor and ask him a few questions.

PE: Where did you go to high school and college?
MT: I went to Germantown high school and then The University of Memphis.
PE: What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t the assistant band dircetor?
MT: I would probably be a history teacher, it’s one of my favorite subjects.
PE: What’s an important memory from your days in high school?
MT: I would have to say playing in concert band at Germantown high.
PE: What are some things that you do for fun outside of school?
MT: I enjoy watching Memphis basketball, watching English soccer, and going to Disney World.
PE: What’s the toughest part of your job here at Houston?
MT: Learning names, that’s probably the most difficult because there are so many members.
PE: What do you think about this year’s marching show?
MT: It has loads of potential and can turn out to be something special.
PE: What do you think will help to improve the band?
MT: Definitely hard work and fixing a lot of little things.
