The Houston girls Volleyball team “Killed the ‘Ville” in their September 18th matchup at Collierville. Houston swept the game, 3-0: 25-21, 25-15, and 25-11.

Team captain, Senior Olivia Novotny, had an amazing performance, along with Junior Kylie Hayes, who also played exceptional.

“We were smarter; we played smarter,” said Head Coach Rebecca “Becky” Pendleton. “It’s awesome to go to somebody else’s school and [have] more fans than their own, that’s huge, and it meant a lot to the girls,” she continued. Thursday night’s game was highlighted by Houston’s defense. The Lady Mustangs were very aggressive on serving and passing was exceptional.

The Mustang Mob had a great presence at the matchup. The electricity of the match was present by the screaming fans; the rivalry between Houston and Collierville is still alive. “Thank you so much for bringing the fans, it means so much to the team,” said Mrs. Tingle, avid supporter of the team, and Houston staff member.

With their win against Collierville, Houston is the #1 seed for the upcoming district tournament. “It relieves a lot of pressure, because now it’s going to be a lot easier, because top two come out of district” said Pendleton.

Senior Olivia Novotny attributes working hard and playing with passion as their momentum going into future games.

Hard work is a reoccurring theme for this year’s squad. When keeping the momentum going for future matchups, Pendleton said, “We’re going to keep working hard, and we’re peaking at the right time.”

The Lady Mustangs will go head-to-head in big games against St. Benedict (Sept. 30), St. George’s (Oct. 2), Harding (Oct. 6), Briarcrest (Oct. 7). Hard work, support, and passion is the only thing that will keep any close knit family together. Let us always be there for them; because we are Houston.
